Using maps to show more than 10,000 celebrities and the places they've been.

SAN CARLOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today Zimbio, Inc., announced the launch of a new celebrity mapping feature called Celebrity Places. This feature uses Bing Maps and an innovative slideshow format that allows users to quickly browse through a street map, satellite map, or "Bird's Eye View," to see exact locations where various celebrities have been. Each point on the map clicks through to a high-resolution photo album of the celebrity at that location.

"The system we've developed takes the professional photographs Zimbio has become known for and pinpoints their precise locations on Bing Maps. The trick was to do it on a massive scale"

"The system we've developed takes the professional photographs Zimbio has become known for and pinpoints their precise locations on Bing Maps. The trick was to do it on a massive scale," says Zimbio CEO Tony Mamone. "For the launch of Celebrity Places, we've already tagged more than 10,000 people in 1,000-plus cities around the world."

The feature (located at: http://www.zimbio.com/places) pulls from more than 4 million professionally shot, high-quality photos Zimbio has published over the years and marks the first collaboration between Microsoft Corp. and Zimbio, Inc.

"In this feature, users can drill down and sort by location, by person, or by category," says Zimbio Editor-in-Chief John Newlin. "For example, they can see which celebrities have recently been to Paris or San Francisco. Or browse just by people in the sports or fashion categories. Or see Kim Kardashian on vacation, then at the airport, then in Calabasas, California, then at Katsuya, etc. It's a very robust feature."

Zimbio applied Bing Map's latest API, Version 7, to its proprietary photo platform in order to populate the feature for launch. An in-house editorial team then curates the experience.

"Bing is always looking for innovative and creative ways to deliver a great experience to consumers," said Matthew Quinlan, Group Manager, Bing. "Marrying celebrity coverage and technology is something Zimbio does very well, so we were thrilled to team up to create a compelling experience showcasing Zimbio's high-quality photos on Bing Maps."
