We have two yarns for you today. But first, a reminder of how we roll here at Northwest News: we scour newspapers, television networks, and online magazines for articles of interest to folks around the Pacific Northwest and share snippets of our favorites (below in italics) for you to enjoy. Your task, should you accept, is to read up, click over and then come back and share your thoughts with your community here on OregonLive. One more thing: keep those remarks on topic and in good taste. Now onto the news. Life used to be a whole lot better at the Life is Good Ranch. Derek and Jennifer Davis have rented their 15-acre rural property out for $300 to $900 a night, offering a pond, pool, a small nine-hole chipping and putting green as well as a 1,400-square-foot game room complete with bar, pool table, karaoke machine and 70-inch television. Now Jackson County officials, acting on a complaint from a neighbor, have told the couple they can't use the house to the west of Wimer as a vacation rental because it violates county code. One reason to be bummed: this fun commercial with photos and details on the house for rent.Add to the adage, "don't feed the bears," this hard-won lesson: "Don't pet the moose." The Anchorage Daily News has the story about a moose police said was "just doing what moose do" when it delivered a hoofed beat-down to a woman in Alaska after she reached out and touched: The moose kicked the unidentified woman several times -- including in the chest and shoulder -- but she was not injured badly enough to go to the hospital, according to police spokeswoman Anita Shell. Police were called to Town Square at about 4:40 p.m. and medics checked the woman and determined she was OK, Shell said. Witnesses told police that the moose kicked the woman, in her 20s, after she tried to pet it as it walked by, Shell said. Check out the Daily News photo of the moose -- and the people giving it a wide, wary berth. And while we're on the topic of furry animals you shouldn't pet, click out the Vancouver Sun's video of playful baby polar bears from a Danish zoo.
