Greetings, readers of Pacific Northwest News!

We're one week into Black History Month, which is as good a reason as any to offer you a true Hi-Di, Hi-Di, Hi-Di, Hi start to your day, courtesy of the late, great Cab Calloway.

You're welcome.

We've got two must read articles to share with you this morning, beginning with a talker out of Seattle about a bill that would impose a fee on drivers of electric vehicles. You know, the vehicles the federal government is offering tax incentives to buy and drive.

But first: how things work here.

We scour newspapers, television networks, and online magazines for articles of interest to folks around the Pacific Northwest. Then we collect snippets of articles (below in italics) for you to enjoy. So read up, click over and then come back and share your thoughts with your peeps on OregonLive. Stay in your lane: we appreciate remarks that are appropriate to the topic and in Mother-approved language.

We begin with Washington's electric car pioneers, who may well be feeling a little smug for driving green and reducing their carbon footprint. Proposed legislation for a new state fee could wipe out some of their good feelings, according to The Seattle Times:

Electric-car owners not only don't buy gasoline, they also don't pay gas taxes.

A bill introduced in the state Senate would try to get back some of that money for the state.

Under the legislation, electric-car owners would pay a special $100 fee each year when registering their vehicles.

Why? Senate Transportation Committee Chairwoman Mary Margaret Haugen, a Democrat from Camano Island, says it's a matter of fairness.
