UBM Launches Online Community TheCMOSite.com Posted: 03 Dec 2010 07:13 AM PST Universal Business Media launched TheCMOSite.com, a new online community for marketing executives, this week. The site offers news, peer guidance, best practices and research to high-level marketers at large companies. The content will focus primarily on Internet marketing. TheCMOSite.com includes several daily blogs and other user-generated content along with video, marketing research reports, webinars and message boards. Developed by UBM's DeusM group, The CMO Site emphasizes its offerings not just as a source of information, but as a community where marketers create profiles and exchange ideas and insights. "For many online magazines and outlets, the community is tacked on to them, but for this we started with the community as part of the design," said Mitch Wagner, editor in chief and community activist for The CMO Site. "It's central to the site." Among the topics covered in the site are social media, online demand generation, marketing technology and shared services, location-based marketing and closed-loop revenue marketing. In all these topics, Wagner added that the focus will be not on novelty, but on hard results. "As we've been discussing the editorial vision for the site, we have agreed that online marketing is an area that is incredibly popular but incredibly overhyped," said Wagner. "We are making sure that we always tie it back to the business value of any campaign, and make sure it's about how they generate sales and sales leads." While The CMO Site is mainly aimed at marketers from large companies, Wagner added that it would also include insights gained from small companies as long as they had broad application.
