It isn't everyday that we get the chance to share an article that culminates in a screed that would make Gordon Gekko blush with attaboy pride.

But before we tell you about a story in Sunday's Seattle Times about a pitiless hard-money lender who unabashedly negotiates commercial loans to desperate homeowners, taking their houses when even one payment is missed, a reminder.

Here's how things work at Northwest News: we scour newspapers, television networks, and online magazines for articles of interest to folks around the Pacific Northwest. Then we collect snippets of articles (below in italics) from our fellow reporters for you to enjoy. So read up, click over and then come back and share your thoughts with your community here on OregonLive. We appreciate remarks on topic and in good taste.

Now back to Emiel Kandi, that Seattle lender who seems to follow a greed-is-glorious mantra. Let's just say he doesn't like to lose, so when attorneys helped save one home nearly lost to Kandi while its owner was in the hospital after giving birth to triplets, Kandi fired off the following email:

"When I am finished with you I will remove the last dime from your bank account, foreclose on your home and personally take the wedding ring from your wife's finger," (Kandi) wrote in an e-mail. "I will do so with glee and aplomb that only the inevitable victory that a bloody and protracted legal war can bring. ... From the gates of Dante's 9th layer of Hell and with my last breath I shall spit on thee."

Bet you want to read the story by The Times' Christine Willmsen and check out the interactive features. Here it is.

While we're sharing Seattle news, let's move on to business, Microsoft, to be precise.

The software giant based in Redmond announced Monday that sales of its Kinect motion sensors for Xbox 360 hit the one-million mark in the first 10 days after release. Microsoft's peripheral is a rival to Apple's wildly successful iPad.

For the story, we turn to seattlepi.com's Microsoft Blog:

Indeed, Kinect may "blow away" Apple iPad sales, as Microsoft's Kudo Tsunoda predicted in September. It took the iPad 59 days to reach 2 million sales.

Kinect has 49 more days, spanning the holiday shopping season, to reach that mark. Not to mention Black Friday.

Microsoft released Kinect in the U.S. on Nov. 4 and in Europe on Friday. The Xbox 360 sensor will hit shelves Thursday in Asia with the exception of Japan, which gets it Saturday.
