Chicago Art Magazine Expands into Theatre and Film Posted: 28 Sep 2010 12:05 AM PDT Chicago Art Magazine expands its cultural reach beyond visual arts with the creation of new online magazines and software related to theatre and film. (PRWEB) September 28, 2010 -- Chicago Art Magazine is celebrating its first birthday by launching subsidiary magazines (online only) for both theatre and film. Chicago-Performance.com (Chicago-Performance.com) offers several unique features. It has an emphasis on theatres who provide video clips, (imagine an Apple Trailer Site for local theatre productions). In addition, it offers a software tool which allows readers to sort films by genre and "comfort level", which filters by the degrees of mainstream, alternative and experimental appeal. Chicago DIY Film (diy-film.com), by contrast, has less emphasis on comprehensive listings and more on editorial coverage about the wide array of filmmakers who are currently creating independent films in Chicago and the Midwest. It features news about everything from grassroots film festivals, filmmaker profiles, and updates for local film organizations. For this network of websites, integration with the social networks is critical. "The 'share this' button is our distribution system," says founder and editor Kathryn Born. "The magazines are designed for the internet reader, who wants complete control of their media consumption. Each art medium has its own social network circle, yet we also have an aggregator, which gives the latest missives from all of the sites. Each story is available in two versions: 700 words, or seven words." An additional artist database is forthcoming.
